Artist Application: NEW FOR 2020! Submissions and Images will ONLY be accepted via the unique Cafe.org link, posted above. If you need assistance with this new process, send an inquiry to firstname.lastname@example.org. We WILL NOT accept application or images via email or regular mail without explicit consent. Art Affaire’s growth has made the former paper application process cumbersome and inefficient. We are confident moving the submission process to Cafe will bring a better experience for everyone!
The process has not changed much, other than being entirely online. When you follow the link above, you will find instruction on how to submit your images and artist category statement once you click on ‘Apply Now’. All artists are still required to submit at least four (4) and no more than six (6) images of work in their selected category. A booth image is also appreciated, but not required. Images should not include identification details and must be clear and unobstructed for review or they may not be shown in the jury process. An artist’s work explanation statement is also still required, describing techniques, materials, processes etc. We are NOT looking for what drives
you to create or your education/experience background.
Multiple Mediums or Applications: Artists may apply in more than one category by submitting a separate application for each category. Do not combine categories! Artists are allowed a maximum of 5 applications.
Preparing for jury review. GMAHS has put together a brief guide on jury preparation. (744 downloads) Additionally, we encourage you to spend time on the Internet or at the library reviewing jury preparation articles and recommendations. We do the Art Affaire jury process digitally, so your images need to be clear, crisp and vibrant.
Judging Criteria in order of importance to the judges:
Creativity and Originality—is it new, inventive, unique?
Quality of Composition and Overall Design—is it well done, do all parts work together?
Overall Impression—is the content good, does it give an overall sense of connection?
We are very fortunate to have had very talented judges over the past few years from the Cincinnati Art Museum, The Contemporary Art Museum and the Dayton Modern Museum who look for these criteria when judging. The 2020
judge will be announced in February!
GMAHS is actively seeking Art Affaire committee members for a number of lead roles, including: Art Affaire Committee Open Task Areas for 2019 (573 downloads)
