Promont is a beautiful, 3-story, Victorian Italianate mansion built between 1865-67 by William McGrue. Originally set on more than 50 acres, today the grounds occupy 5 acres of lovely, mature trees and gardens. Promont is distinguished by its attached tower rising 5 stories from the basement to the tower's observation room, and is one of just 5% of Victorian structures in the country to feature such a tower.

When it was built, Promont was a technological marvel featuring gas lighting, central heat from a coal-fired furnace, call bells, and a gravity flow running water system. Promont has been restored to its apearance in 1879-1906 in honor of its most famous resident John M. Pattison, Ohio's 43rd governor.

Today, Promont is open for tours to the general public Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1:30-4:30pm and group tours by appointment. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $1.00 for children. There is no charge for GMAHS members. Promont may also be reserved for exterior photo shoots and authentic Victorian teas for groups of 10 or more.

In order to maintain the integrity of the museum on the National Register of Historic Places, the GMAHS has chosen not to alter the structure of the home. As a nationally recognized historic site, it is exempt from the Americans with Disabilities Act. A "virtual tour" presentation is available to those who can navigate the steps at the front or rear of the house, and a photo album of the interior is also available.
